This unit refers
to another of the four important skills which is listening. Listening is a
receptive skill (responding to language) as well as reading. It refers that
learners can make sense of the meaningful sounds by using context, language and
knowledge. Listening involves understand structured messages in the time that is
available. According to Bulletin (1952) this skill is important in order to
understand ideas form different people, with different accents and in
different speed.
However, there are some listening subskills in which a listener may listen for gist or global understanding,
specific information, details,
and speakers
attitude. Furthermore, to help learner at listening it´s necessary
to follow some steps such as: introduce materials (pictures, flashcards), task
with purpose
and suitable, create learners´ interest. In addition, Shastri (2009) states
that is a proper resource of motivation to show learners different kinds of
visual aids such as: sketches, diagrams or pictures. All in all, I would use a
Website called LiricsTraining in order to make students listen their favorite
songs and practice pronunciation. Besides, I’d motivate them to speak English
to their friends most of the time, till it becomes a habit.
