This unit is
mainly focused in one of the four important skills which is Reading.
Reading is a receptive skill as well as listening. It involves making sense of
any written text, maybe to get information from real life situations. Another
definition given by Al-Mahrooqi & Roscoe (2014), It’s that reading is very
important in academic settings and for getting information. In addition, for
Newman and Roskos (1993), in Reading is relevant to know vocabulary because
learners will comprehend
better a text. However, there are some subskills that reading has such as the
following: scanning
(read for specific information), skimming ( read for general ideas), inferring (from
pictures or context), deducing
meaning from context, and predicting (before begin Reading).
Moreover, reading can be done silently or loudly. Finally, it´s important to mention
that there are three essentials stages in Reading: pre/while/post-reading, and
each one of them has their own strategies to develop learners´ reading skills.
All in all, I would use many different reliable readings, the ones students
find interesting and feel motivated to read and learn. Besides, I’d apply
Jigsaw activities to make the class interactive.
